USB Dictation Controller Bundle w/ Express Dictate Professional

DCVDUSB - Setup Instructions

The USB Dictation Controller will work perfectly with NCH Software's Express Dictate v3.07 or later.

Setup

Setting up your USB Dictation Controller for Express Dictate is easy. Just follow the instructions below:

For Express Dictate v4.xx and earlier

  1. Connect the USB Dictation Controller to a USB Port on your PC.
  2. In Express Dictate click on the 'Options' button in the main window, then select the 'Controllers' tab. Select Game Port 1 or USB 1 in the Device drop down menu.
  3. Click on 'Test Controller' to determine which button is button 1, 2, 3, and 4.
  4. Click on 'OK' and you can now select what you want each button to do using the drop down menu next to each button option.
  5. The USB Dictation Controller should now be configured, click on 'OK' and you are ready to go!
For Express Dictate v5.xx and later
  1. Connect the USB Dictation Controller to a USB Port on your PC.
  2. In Express Dictate click on 'Options' in the main window, then select the 'Controllers' tab. Click on 'Controller Setup Wizard...' to begin configuring your device.
  3. Click 'Next' on the first page of the wizard. On the next page, your controller will show up automatically (either vDictate Mk I (USB) or vDictate Mk II (USB)). Ensure the correct device is selected and click 'Next'.
  4. On the next page you will see some simple diagnostic information regarding the product, click on 'Next' to continue.
  5. The next page is where you can test the buttons on the controller. On this page you will see a default list of actions and commands associated with those actions. One by one, press each button on the dictation device, and observe the 'Pressed' column. For each button press, the word 'Yes' will appear in this column, indicating that the software has detected the button press.
  6. Once you have tested all the buttons, click on 'Finish', then 'OK' to get out of the Express Dictate Options.
  7. The USB Dictation Controller should now be configured, and you are ready to start making dictations.
Note: In the Controller Setup Wizard, if the USB dictation device does not appear in the list of detect hardware, this means that the device has not been detected by the software (and Windows). Selecting the 'manual' option to setup the device will not work in this scenario. You should try exiting Express Dictate, unplugging and re-plugging the USB device, then check to see if Windows has detected it, then start up Express Dictate and try the Controller Setup Wizard again.
