How to Setup A Conference and Court Reporting System

This article is intended for Windows users wishing to setup one or more microphones for a conference or court reporting scenario, and to record directly onto their Windows PC desktop or laptop computer.

Record Through a Single Microphone

  • Take note of the cable length limitations of the microphones (see the respective product pages for more information). If further cable length is required, we suggest purchasing USB Extension Cables for the USB microphones, or the 3.5mm (1/8 inch) extension cables for the 3.5mm microphones.

  1. Connect the microphone to your computer.

  2. Download and install the MSRS Conference and Court Recording Software.

  3. The software will open automatically after installation. Once you see the main screen appear, go into the Options -> 'Devices' tab, and ensure that your recording device is enabled in the Recording Device List - note that USB microphones act as their own sound device, and may not be enabled by default.

  4. Once you have done this, you can commence your recordings.

Record up to Eight Microphones

  • Most laptops have a maximum of two USB ports, which leads to the recommendation of two 4-port USB hubs, and eight USB microphones. If running a desktop computer, you can connect two hubs to each of the front and back USB ports on the computer. The front and back ports are each controlled by a different USB controllers, but we don't recommend any more than two hubs per controller.
  • Each USB microphone will identify itself to Windows as its own sound device. You can see this through the Control Panel -> Sounds section. You will see this in MSRS as well.

  1. Connect the 4-port hub(s) to your computer and wait about 10-15 seconds for Windows to automatically install the device drivers and enable the device.

  2. Connect each of the USB microphones into the hub(s), one by one. After each device is connected, wait about 10-15 seconds for Windows to automatically install the device drivers and enable the device.

  3. Download and install the MSRS Conference and Court Recording Software.

  4. The software will open automatically after installation. Once you see the main screen appear, go into the Options -> 'Devices' tab, and ensure that your recording devices are enabled in the Recording Device List - note that USB microphones act as their own sound devices, and may not be enabled by default.

  5. Once you have done this, you can commence your recordings.
