Express USB Video Phone

UPYLE4V - Setup Instructions


The Express USB Phone is fully supported by NCH Swift Sound's Express Talk VoIP softphone. Express Talk already includes the drivers needed to support the USB Express Phone for Windows 2000, XP, Vista and Windows 7.

If you have not downloaded Express Talk yet, you can download it from the Express Talk homepage.

If you have already downloaded and purchased Express Talk, please continue to use that version.


Setting up your Express USB Phone with Express Talk

Click here for more information on the Express USB Phone Setting up the Express USB Phone for Express Talk is easy. Just follow the instructions below.

  1. Connect the Express USB Phone to a USB port on your PC.
    The LCD display of the phone should light up with VOIP-PHONE written on the display.
  2. Windows should automatically recognize the new USB device and will install the needed drivers for you.
  3. Once the drivers are installed you may receive a message asking you to reboot your computer. If you do receive this message, please reboot your computer.
These instructions apply to Express Talk 3.xx and earlier.
  1. Start up Express Talk, click on 'Settings' in the Express Talk main window, and select the 'Audio' table.
  2. In the 'Audio' tab choose 'Use Express USB Phone' under 'Communications Device'.
  3. In the 'Other' tab ensure 'Run on the tray to receive calls' and choose your preference for users from the dropdown box.
  4. Click 'OK' to close the Settings.
  5. Express Talk will detect the handset and the display on the Express USB Phone should return the date and time.
These instructions apply to Express Talk 4.xx and later.
  1. Start up Express Talk, click on 'Options' in the Express Talk main window, and select the 'Devices' tab.
  2. In the 'Devices' tab, check the option 'Use an Express USB Phone (When Connected)'. This will enable the audio configuration options for this device.
  3. By default Express Talk will automatically search for the USB phone's input and speaker devices. It will display these devices in this dialog as the default devices to use when using the USB phone. The devices will be called 'USB Audio Device', and the name may include 'Microphone' for the input device, and 'Speakers' for the speaker device.
  4. Once you review that these devices are ok, click on 'OK' to close the Options.
  5. If you check the Express Talk logs, you should see a message saying 'Express USB Phone Handset found'. This means you are ready to start using the Express USB Phone with Express Talk.
  6. Express Talk will detect the handset and the display on the Express USB Phone should return the date and time.
  7. Note: Configuring the audio devices in this tab will not change your settings in the 'Audio' tab in the Options. If you are using '[Default Sound In]' and '[Default Sound Out]' as the selections in the 'Audio' tab, after you plugged the USB phone in, Windows will have configured that device as the default input and speaker devices on your computer. This means you may have to change the 'Audio' devices to specifically use your desired hardware (ie. a headset).
Follow up Instructions

  • As mentioned previously, this USB phone will now be the default input and speaker devices on your computer. To re-set the devices back to your computer's sound card, please follow the instructions below.
    • [XP and earlier] Click on Start > Settings > Control Panel > 'Sound and Audio Devices' > choose the Audio Tab. In the Sound Playback Box select your system sound card as the default device for both playback and recording.
    • [Vista and later] Click on Start > Settings > Control Panel > 'Sound' > 'Playback' Tab'. Select your desired default speaker device, and click on 'Set Default' to set it back to the default device. Click on the 'Recording' tab and do the same for the input device.
  • To adjust the AGC volume boost on XP or ealier, please follow the instructions below.
    • In the Sound Recording Box select USB Audio Device, then click on Volume.
    • The Wave In dialog box will appear. Click on Advanced.
    • In the Advanced Controls for Wave dialogue box un-check AGC.
    • Close the Advanced Controls for Wave and the Wave In dialogue boxes.
    • In the Sound Recording Box select you system sound card as the default device.
    • Click Apply then Close.

Note: The CD in the box with the USB Phone hardware is for using the USB phone with Skype. We do not support the use of Skype with this hardware, and will only support usage with Express Talk (Express Talk is not currently bundled with the hardware).
