An IP Phone plugs into any network socket on your computer LAN (Local Area Network). After you set it up to link to a Virtual PBX application such as Axon (free download) running on a computer or server on your network, it works like an ordinary phone extension. The advantage of doing this is that you save needing special telephone cabling and by using VoIP technology there is improved call functionality and usually when you make outbound calls VoIP calls are much cheaper than regular phone lines.

Standard features on the SPA942 include four active lines, dual switched Ethernet ports, 802.3af PoE support, a high resolution graphical display, high quality, full-duplex speakerphone, and a 2.5 mm head-set port. Each line can be independently configured to use a unique phone number (or extension), or can be configured to use a shared number that is assigned to multiple phones.

The adapter will convert voltage for the phones worldwide but the plug is designed for North American and Japanese wall sockets. If you
are in another part of the world an extra wall socket adapter will need to be purchased from your local electronics shop.
